Nigel Evans Meets Depression Alliance
Nigel Evans, Member of Parliament for the Ribble Valley, yesterday met with Chief Executive, Emer O’Neill and other representatives from Depression Alliance, Britain’s leading charity for people who experience depression and anxiety, to discuss proposals for improvement to the current treatment of depression. Speaking from Westminster, Mr. Evans commented, “Considering one sixth of the population suffers from depression, it is essential that the Department of Health brings the treatment of depression to the forefront of its agenda. This is a crucial time to make sure that there are ample services and choices available to those seeking help. “Treatments for depression range in complexity, yet quite often all one needs is support. Whether it is support from a GP or friends; having a solid network of support is essential for recovery. Unfortunately, there is not enough information available for those who know someone who suffers with depression. This lack of knowledge can be detrimental to the treatment of a family member or friend. Education is the first step on the road of awareness. “Lastly, it is necessary that PCTs across Britain provide equal access and options to those who suffer from this illness. Treatment cannot depend on postal codes.” |
