Conservative controllled  Ribble Valley Borough Council  have obtained funding from the Government Transformation programme to assist some of the most vulnerable  residents  in the Ribble Valley.

Longridge Councillor Ken Hind commented ''The Council have obtained grant funding  from the department of Communities and Local Government along with Lancashire County Council, Burnley and Pendle Councils .The goal of the project is to offer a range of additional services, based on need to a vulnerable group. The group selected is the 1147 mainly elderly or disabled who qualify for assisted refuse collection .

''Those selected  have been called or will be contacted  throughout February by the Ribble Valley Council contact centre and offered a range of services from different agencies who are co-ordinating together. The services offered include; home fire safety checks, help direct from LCC Help Direct, social services, welfare benefit reviews , warmer homes grants, blue badges and prescription delivery services.

''The aim of the project is to target hard to reach groups to make sure they are accessing services that will improve the quality of their lives. This is part of the role of a local council in caring for the welfare of it's most vulnerable citizens. So far the response has been very good and nearly all those who have been contacted  have asked for additional help. We hope  those who have not yet been contacted  will take full advantage of the scheme.''
