The Club has a unique history

Nigel Evans MP, Member of Parliament for Ribble Valley has today expressed his concern for plans to move the National Football Museum from Preston to Wembley Stadium.

Speaking from Westminster, Mr. Evans said,

“I wholeheartedly support and appreciate all the good work they do. Football is a vital facet of English History and the National Football Museum houses over 150 years of this history under its roof. It is fantastic that a National Museum is based in the North West and it would an enormous shame were it to be moved.

“Preston North End was one of the first founding members of the Football League in 1888 and shortly became the first team to win both the league and FA Cup double. The Club has a unique history boasting relationships with such luminaries of the game as Sir Tom Finney, Bill Shankley, Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles and David Beckham.

“Although Wembley Stadium is a global icon for footballers it does not have the historical value of Deepdale, which is one of the oldest professional football ground in the world. It would be very disappointing to see this museum leave its rightful home in Preston.”
